The 3rd ICPCN (International Children’s Palliative Care Network) Conference, will take place in Durban, South Africa, from 30 May to 2 June 2018.

The theme for this conference is “Inspiration, Innovation, Integration”. ICPCN has partnered with local partners, including PatchSA, the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA) and Umduduzi, Hospice Care for Children.

The conference presents an excellent opportunity for Africa in general and South Africa in particular, to participate and promote the cause of children’s palliative care.

The conference aims to bring together people from around the world and from all professions working with children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions and encourage the exchange of knowledge, new and innovative ideas, research and experiences between them.

With a line up of world class keynote speakers, the conference programme promises to provide rich opportunities for professional development and networking and will begin with a full day of pre-conference workshops on 30 May 2018.

Workshops can be attended separately from the conference at a cost of R650 for a full day, including teas and lunch. Workshop themes are as follows:

  • Children’s palliative care in humanitarian situations
  • Perinatal palliative care
  • Difficult conversations in children’s palliative care
  • Reaching out to develop a children’s palliative care programme
  • Ethics in children’s palliative care
  • Supporting others in the face of death
  • Managing pain in children’s palliative care – from birth to young adulthood

Confirmed speakers for the conference include our chair, Dr Michelle Meiring along with other recognised leaders in the field of children’s palliative care such as Prof Julia Downing (ICPCN Chief Executive), Prof Danai Papadatou (Athens University), Dr Sat Jassal MBE (Chair and editor of the APPM Master Formulary), Kelly du Plessis (Founder of Rare Diseases, SA), and others.
